Front Spring Seats

Asked by Aussies52 Feb 04, 2009 at 01:49 AM about the 1999 Volvo S80

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How often should the front spring seats brake and need to be replaced? Thank you.

2,915

The front brake pads will need to be replaced every 30,000 to 40,000 miles on most cars. Usually rear brakes last twice as long as the front. (2 sets of front brake pads for every set of rear pads). The spring seats are not usually considered a regular maintenance item. They should not require regular replacement before about 100,000 miles or so. Generally spring seats or strut bearing plates are only replaced when the struts are replaced. I recommend every 100,000 miles or 10 years for struts, but some people have driven 200,000 miles on the original struts.
