If the engine is the same the tranny will work unless it has been swapped out before you bought the car, but if the engine is different you can still use the other transmission but you will have to leave the pressure plate or torque converter (if automatic) with the engine it came with and swap out the input shaft as they are a different thickness between 2.0L and 1.8L. As you can see unless the engines are the same its easy but if different you should know what your doing before tempting. If they are both automatic transmissions but different engines then you have to take the flywheel with converter/trany for complete swap. Good luck! anymore questions visit http://www.customobsessions.com its 99% all Volkswagen owners who are online 24/7 and we have done every possible swap/modification to Volkswagen's ask any question there and more than one person will gladly help you with info/tech support.
