Question type: Maintenance & Repair

there is a whining noise under the hood for a few seconds (like it's straining) any idea what it could be? My neighbors kid has the same car and when she started it the other day, it made the same noise as mine. This seems common but what is it and how can I have it fixed?

could be power steering pump going or low on fluid, may be alternator which will work fine they will get nosier as they wear out maybe a loose or worn out fan belt without actually hearing the sound its difficult to diagnose the problem but there's a few possibilities for you to start with.

Hey thanks, it sounds as if it's coming from the starter...could it be sticking? Have you ever heard of that? If so can some CRC solve it or should I just replace it? I'll check on the others you mentioned..belts are all good. Thanks!
