2001 vw jetta

I have a 2001 vw jetta drove it to the store parked it
came out and it started right up like normal but
won't go into gear. It's automatic transmission the
shifter won't move at all there is a epc light on that
has never been on before and a foot trying to tell
you to hit the breaks I replaced the break switch
with on luck

Like all cars, you have to press the brake pedal to be able to move the shifter into gear. If you did that and fails to operate, there is some kind of brake switch that is not closing when you hit the brake pedal. The brake light switch is probably not the same switch. Check both if there are two.
