Gas pedal becomes unresponsive, cruise control takes over. Help.

Gas pedal suddenly becomes unresponsive.  Cruise control seems to take over
and drives at about 10MPH.  When I put it in Neutral or Park, it continues to run
at high idle.   This has happened twice now.  Shutting off the car for a minute
and restarting has temporarily restored control of accelerator, but cruise control
light continues blinking and CES is on.
