My key will not open the car door

I tried to unlock my Car using the fob this morning it would not work I have replaced the
battery it still does not work and the key will not open the car door

I have the exact same problem today. After returning home from a short trip I locked the car. When I later tried to open it ..nothing. Replaced the key fob battery, still nothing. Opened the boot with the key extension, alarm went off until I released the fuel tank cap. The main car battery was replaced a couple of months ago.
