4x4 front drive shaft

Asked by Nancy Aug 24, 2021 at 03:32 PM about the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm new to owning a 4x4, and I'm curious
about weather the front drive line moves all
the time or only while in 4x4? We've been
trying to determine if my 01 Explorer 4x4
sport is STUCK part way between 2wd and
4x4..

Not sure about the Explorer but the F150 keeps one front axle connected all the time. I am pretty sure the front drive shaft still turns even though it is not getting power. In other words it all depends on the exact method the manufacturer uses to lock in the front drive.
