i have a 96 dodge ext.cab 318 motor and it ran shut it off and now wont start any ideas

Hi Harry 9901! I don't have enough infor based on what you are telling me. I'm not sure if you mean that it fires when it turns over or just spins. There quite few variables and possible issues here. Keep the basics in mind, you need spark, fuel and compression to run an engine. Compression probably isn't the issue so check the fuel chain and ignition system. Try again with a little more info or have a mechanic take a look at it. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
