Trying to buy correct transmission for my truck.
Was told it only takes the same year 2000 and isn't
interchangable with other years. I have a extended
cab with 2 small extra doors. Is that the only
transmission I can use?

No thats not all true. Thw year can be different and different vehicle as long as it matches with the computer

Be careful with going too far outta year model, the plugs mite be the same, but you could still get a check engine lite n tranny malfunction. Best bet is too consult a trusted, experienced mechanic who knows his/her 2nd gen dodges.
