Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Dodge Rm 1500.  When the engine is taken out, will the heater
core be more easily accessible?  I am having the engine replaced, and I also
need the heater core replaced.  I am asking if the heater core would be an
easier replacement without the engine.

No, the heater core is located under and behind the dashboard that needs to be removed to reach the heater core. From the engine compartment, the fire wall prevents removal of components located behind the dashboard.

No, the fire wall is part of the vehicle's body and it is solid. The power brakes booster and pump as well as other components are attached to it.

If you're bold enough to remove the dash as an assembly (completely out), approximately 1-2 hour job, you'll discover the HVAC plenum is rite there behind it...and that's where ye old heater core resides.
