Transmission problems

My friend had tried to turn his truck into four-
wheel-drive while still and drive on nutral and
afterwords his truck would not move or go into
gear but when he puts it into park it makes a loud
whistling noise I think he just stripped the gear in
the transmission but I’m not sure

sounds like more of a transfer case issue maybe not fully engaged try starting the truck put in neutral and put back in 2wh high see if it goes may have a encoder motor or linkage issue there
