1995 Buick Century dies when I put brakes on, why?

Asked by Terra Jan 18, 2015 at 02:54 PM about the 1995 Buick Century

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car starts, idles and runs fine until you put the brake on, idles down and just dies.
What could be the cause?

Could be a problem with the intake air control valve, which allows an engine to breath when you are not pressing on the gas pedal (and the throttle plate is closed). Usually a tune up, cleaning the throttle body, EGR, PVC valves helps. If it's been a while since you've replaced the fuel filter then do that too.
