my smart key system works for several days, then quits for a few days. No regular pattern. Batteries are fresh.

This may sound stupid, but is there anyway that you are hitting the on/off button with your knee when you get in the car. It is located to the left side/under the steering wheel.

When the smart function doesn't work, can you lock and unlock the doors with your remote?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. No, the doors don't respond and the buttons on the fob don't work either. Thanks for your interest.

The lock or unlock button on the key fob sticks. I'm afraid you may need to replace your key fob.
