BMW X5 Starting Issue

I have a BMW X5 3.0 Litre Diesel Sport, which is not starting. The car opens
as normal with the fob and the lights on the dash come on as normal but
then when I turn the key to start the car it clicks once and all power is lost,
with the only way of re-starting the car being to jump start it.
Any help on possible solutions to repair the problem would be greatly
appreciated.

When last did you change your battery? You might need a new battery. If you have a new battery already, most likely your alternator is not charging
