My 2004 X5 4.8i starts and then dies after 5 to 10 seconds. Anyone have any idea what cold be wrong?

Turns over, runs for about 5-10 seconds and then dies.

Probably a sensor is damaged, or the fuel filter is clogged!

Sensors to check are oil level, or coolant sensors!

Did you replace the battery? May have a security issue

Thanks so much. I did not replace the battery but I will check the oil levels and the coolant level.

if it starts and shuts off check the intake boot located between ur air filter housing and engine.u might have a big crack.If it just cranks and does not start u might have a crank angle sensor that went bad.

My 2006 4.8 IS is doing the exact thing... Did you find out what was wrong?
