I admit I don't know the CA market, but i suggest you work backwards; How perfect do you want to car to be when you are done? In that condition, what could you sell it for? Now, what will it cost you to put it in that condition? I learned a long time ago that for me, it is cheaper to buy one finished than spend my time and money to get it where I could enjoy it. Lets say you want a car worth $25k when you are done and you can buy this one for $2500. Can you make a $25k car out of for less than $22,500? I have two 65 original cars both with less than 35000 mi. Very nice but not perfect show co ndition. I doubt I could get $20,000 for either one of them. It is very easy to get a major investment in a poor condition classic. I once had $31k in a Chev SS that I sold for $22k... ouch! think this one through.
