left turn signal and brake light doesn't work

Turn signal switch or wiring short.

In a car that's over fifty years old, I'd suspect it's not all original. Yes, you might have an electrical short, hot or ground, but it might be a defective bulb socket. check to see how the light assembly is wired then trace current from the fuses back to the lights.
