Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am about to check/adjust the front band on my 1963 thunderbird
cruisamatic.
I have 2 differing settings from gwo manuals, I need to know which
to use.
1)  one says add a 1/4 inch spacer between the adjust4 screw and
the band push rod Then turn back 1 full turn.

2)  the other says turn the screw in untill itstops then out 1 and 1/4
turns.

are these actually both thesame???

I think #2 is correct. I don't see how adding an additional 1/4" would make it right.
