Rust is a big issue with these trucks. Mainly frame rust. Dad had a '91 Mazda B-Series (same truck, just rebadged) and it ended up rusting out at the rear wheel on the RH side of the frame.

ok 2 problems with your comment. 1; rangers don't have a problem with rusty frames i've owned 4, not one was under 10 yrs old when i bought it and not one had a rusty frame beyond typical surface rust, and i live in quebec canada where snow and salt are major issues. 2; the main problem with your comment is that you are mistaken, a '91 mazda b series is not a ranger or a ford of any kind, it's a mazda. mazda didn't begin rebadging rangers until 1994.

valve cover gaskets...rusting frame...i had the same truck 1989 ranger XLT ext cab short box 2.8L...had to scrap it because the frame literally rusted in half...

i had a 1988 and the carb was a pain to try to adjust or rebuild . the new carb wouldve cost me 500 plus bucks ....i will never own one again . i now have a 1990 ford conversion van with 84000 miles on a 351 windsor . i love it , but it does have electrical problems just like ANY ford . i had a 97 stang that did the same , the gauges stopped working on that ....oh well , its a ford thing
