If you are talking about the PCV breather element located on the inside of the round air cleaner housing, don't clean it. Replace it when it becomes oil-soaked. If you are talking about an oiled air cleaner like a K&N air filter, a special non-flammable cleaner is used by K&N and sold at most auto parts stores. You don't want to use a flammable solvent as this can cause backfires or an engine fire since the air cleaner is right on top of the carb.
