repair MR2

Asked by scoonie Feb 23, 2010 at 04:28 PM about the 1986 Toyota MR2

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i've had this car to two different mechanics so far and it's slowly costing a small fortune. It turns over but will not start. "check Engine light never came on, and should have (according to mechanic). They both say it is electrical, but can't locate it. Are there any problems similar to this, in this car's history or just an age thing ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you taking it to toyota techs or corner shops? Recommend toyota tech as i am a toyota expert certified tech also have ASE certs to back that up well start with basics Check for spark if your not getting that your not gonna start. and no in a 1986 the Check engine light will not come on due to a now start. More, than likely you simply need new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. start with checking for spark though and let me know from there.
