I have a 2006 Base 2 Wheel Drive Automatic Tacoma. How often do you have to change the oil? 3,000 or 5,000? Out 2006 Camry, they recommended 5,000 miles.

Yes, despite the recommendations of higher oil changes, I always change at 3,000. It's not that much more expensive and keeping clean oil in the crankcase is the best way to avoid engine probs. down the road.

Toyota manual says 5,000. Even has a "maintenance required" light that comes on at 5,000 miles to remind you.

I do it at 5,000, when the light comes on. 102,000 miles & still going strong.

if you are using synthetic oil, you can do 5000 miles, but if you are using conventional oil, id do it every 3000.

Conventional oil can go 5,000 miles. Mobil 1 synthetic can go 10k & the extended says 15k(not sure if I would go 15k).

Even better check your oil regularily and when it starts to get dark or shows signs of breaking down then change it or every 5k... I do it every 5000km (3000milesish) but i run my engine quite hard and want to make sure its well taken care of... the other thing to keep in mind is that generally with new warranties you need to have the oil changed by a shop that is certified... doing it yourself will void the warranty...

I use AMSOIL synthetic. They say the oil is good for 7500+ The maintenance light on the dash is set to flash around 4500 and come on solid at close to 5000 so I change it when the light comes on

i know some people that run AMSoil for as much as 30000 km and change their oil only once a year... i also have picked them up off the side of the road a couple times when their engine fails... 7500miles is a lot for the type of duty i use and i usually change my oil every 3-4000 km but i wouldnt hesitate to put 5000km on the full syenthetic Mobil 1 i use... AMSoil is a very good oil but i dont think any oil should be used as long as 7500miles in a consumer vehicle (or any vehicle for that matter...)
