Why are my RPM's reaching 6,000 just to reach highway speeds?

Asked by Kirsten Dec 01, 2014 at 08:03 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

In order for my car to go 60-70 mph,
my Rpms are kicking up to 6,000. My
car sounds very loud from the inside
but not on the outside. Just to
accelerate my Rpms jump and my
car acts like I've floored the gas
pedal

Sounds like your car isn't going into overdrive and is stuck in a lower gear.

When was the last time you checked the tranmission fluid level and or had the transmission serviced?
