Subaru Forester 2000 2.5L

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have replaced the timing belt on my forester and
have lined up all marks as suggested the car
started but then got a camshaft sensor code and
car was running rough changed sensor car runs but
still get bad sensor code. Sensors both test good .
Now I have noticed my marks are off again so reset
marks now car won’t even start. Also after taking er
belt off again and resetting while moving crank shaft
the driver side cam shaft will jump off mark any
ideas why?

Is the belt tight or does it have play? If it is skipping time something is wrong.

If you have the DOHC engine and it skipped time you probably have bent valves.

DOHC what does that stand for? Would a bent value cause the the camshaft when set without belt then turning crank to tdc to slip backwards.
