2003 ION

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is the trunk release button electrically controlled.  Was charging the battery &
had both the pos/neg cables removed from the battery.  The charger was on
the battery and was powered by an AC extension cord.  It was supposed to
rain that night so I closed the trunk door.  Now I can't release it with the
button and I have no key for the trunk lid because my dumb assed cousin
replaced the trunk lid years ago and never got a new key.  Or am I the dumb
ass for never asking for a key.  Saw the broomstick option - I don't see that
working too well.  Any brainiacs out there have a solution?
