get a new battery...mostly is the Ground side to give us problems...NEW battery 1997 is a fossil~ if electrical will most assuredly be a bad GROUND from the battery to the chassis ground ....and to the engine...both place 30 amp CABLE~ not sure if that will cause the TCM (transmission control module) not to operate...to put a NEW battery (cause you need that after 10 years) and new Cables (if the corrosion is blue and nasty) and you might probably be okay....try and see~
