Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just put a new ignition in my grand am it's
not a transponder key but it won't start and
the security light is on why?

Because your vehicle needs a transponder key programmed to your vehicle.

The ignition lock cylinder that you put in has to have a passlock sensor

That is correct. You have the wrong lock cylinder. Your car is equipped with the PASSLOCK security system. Once you have the correct lock cylinder installed you'll have to be towed to your local GM dealer to have the new transponder keys programmed to the car. HTH. -Jim
