vibration in brake pedal

Asked by gablefan2001 Jun 12, 2015 at 08:19 AM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix makes a vibrating sound. I feel it in the brake pedal, but the
brakes are ok. It seems like the traction control. How do I turn that off ?

To turn traction control off and on check owners manual. Usually it's a button that you push.

Rotors are the likely cause for brake vibration. Have them checked for warping. Traction control should not be a factor in that it sences wheel spin and just applies the brakes.

Does it vibrate when applying the brakes or just when driving down the highway?

If traction control will not turn off by pushing the button or clicking the switch you my want to look in owners manual to see were fuse is located and remove but I think its to late for your rotors most likely need to be resurfaced or replaced.

Bad front axles will also cause vibrations under braking. If the brakes are good I'd check there next. Doesn't sound like a traction control/ABS issue to me either.

The button was how I turn off/on the traction control. It wasn't that. I'm taking it to the mechanic this week to check the rotors and axle. Thanks everyone. I will let you know what I find out.

I turned the traction control button on/off. Had all the brakes and rotors replaced and still have the same problem. Hopefully the mechanic would have noticed a bad axle right ? He is a good mechanic and honest. He said something about the anti-lock brakes making a noise. I didn't realize it was that same noise until I drove it later. I haven't taken it back to him yet as my money is tight now (Already spent $500).
