Timing chain

Asked by Jun 13, 2017 at 06:16 PM about the 2001 Nissan Altima

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dealer has told me that my timing chain fell off. Not
snapped. Is it worth it to get it fixed?  They are telling me I
need a new engine.  Might be time for a new car?

Broken timing chain is bad news, I don't think it's worth a new engine though, unless your going to keep it till it rusts into the ground, maybe a good used engine, one with a warranty on the part, that way if it does go away the part is covered and all your stuck with is the labor, although you could sell it as is where is if the title is clear.
