Dash warning lights

Asked by Pete Dec 13, 2018 at 03:05 PM about the 2000 Lexus RX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Lexus 300 with 300,000 miles on it. The "Check Engine", "ABS"
and "Brake" lights have been on for almost 1 year. There has been no problem.
I have been told the repair of electronics is expensive. Is it worth it to take the
car to the Dealer?

$$$$. I would take it and get codes read. Who is to say it is electronics? Could be simple things like cleaning wheel sensors and O2 sensor replacements. Normal maintenance. If you have a local trusted mechanic in your area they should be able to diagnose for you.

Without knowing the codes I cannot advise you. First have the trouble codes read and then post them here. Your local auto parts store should be able to read them.

With that many miles on the car the dealer charges would likely exceed the value of the car. You will have to choose between repairs or just buying another car. Since it runs you may want to drive it until it dies. Post the codes and hopefully the repairs are not expensive.
