Lift gate won’t lock

Asked by Guru22SLK Mar 04, 2020 at 10:16 AM about the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox

Question type: General

We just noticed on our 2020 Chevy equinox that the lift gate does not lock
when we lock the car....all doors are locked, however, the lift gate still opens.
How do we get it to lock?

Thanks. I was hoping not to have to take it, but it appears inevitable

I have the same problem with my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox. We just discovered this tonight. Second issue and have only had for a month and a half. Contacting the dealership on tomorrow.

It's your proximity keys. Your keys must be at least 20 ft away from the vehicle. If you lock your doors, then walk to the back with y our keys on you, the hatch won't lock. It's to allow the use of the foot opener. To test this, lock the vehicle and leave your keys inside. Then go check your hatch. It should be locked.

When leave the car, walk about 20 feet than hit the lock button twice. The lift gate will lock. When u return to your car and get close to the car it will automatically unlock the lift gate. It all has too do with how close your fob is too the vehicle. It took me 4 days to figure this out. Should not be this hard. Trust me it works

No worries . Lock your vehicle doors Them after you walk 20 feet away the rear hatch will automatically lock. If you want to test , lock your doors and walk 20 feet away and leave your fob there. Walk back and you will see the hatch is locked.

Thank you all! I just bought my 2020 Equinox and noticed over the weekend that the back hatch was not locked. After reading your answers, I locked it and then left my keys 20 feet away while I checked it. It worked!

Thank you for your answers. My equinox Is a 2019 and I just found out at Xmas my lift gate wasn’t locking. I have read and reread the owners manual and it never tells how to lock it. I was going to take it to the dealership, but thanks to your answers I didn’t have to embarrass myself.

The remote/lock, read the other. Simply put, that is. The liftgate locks when it can't interact with the remote. Walk away more than 20 feet and the liftgate will lock. Lay the keys down, walk back to the liftgate, it will be locked. Walk back with keys on you, it unlocks. Neat, huh?? I think so.

Use remote and lock doors. Walk away 20 feet and the liftgate will lock. As long as you are close with keys on you, it won't lock. Walk away 20 feet, lay keys down, walk back and see your liftgate will be locked. Get keys and walk close to the car, the liftgate will automatically unlock. Neat!!

our 2019 Chev Equinox - we lost one of our key fobs and had to purchase another. We had a dealer reprogram the the 2 key fobs to the car. We got home & are able to lock the doors but not the lift gate. Any ideas//
