What is the difference between AWD and Base AWD?

AWD means All Wheel Drive...The Lexus IS 250 is powered by a 2.5-liter V6, which sends 204 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The IS 250 is also available with a six-speed automatic with Formula 1 inspired paddle-shifters. The all-wheel drive model is a good sports sedan for the Snow Belt. Safety features include driver and front-passenger knee airbags. The brakes are large and effective four-wheel discs, clamped at the front by aluminum four-piston calipers. Augmenting the big brakes have ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, and Brake Assist. Traction control also comes standard.

DavidH25 is right. I have a 2005 Mitsabusi endevor not sure if they consider it awd or four wheel drivr but it uses the front end all the time and auto kicks in the rear wheels when needed. Better gas milage when it is just useing fwd but only uses awd when needed

Looking at CarMax, I often see 2WDWD. Is that a mistake? Or does it mean something like 4WD?
