2019 Ford Expedition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2019 Ford Expedition that came with a single horn that is wimpy. I want to replace with a  OEM double horn. Any tips/tricks getting in behind the grill. I tried going in through the top by removing some of the plastic molding but can't figure out what to do next?  If a grill removal is necessary, any tips/tricks/advice please?

i agree. i still have the issue of getting to the wiring harness that you plug it into. I can't get my hand in there to unplug it or even see how long it may be to place the horn somewhere else.

I know it’s 5 months later but I too disliked the single “toot”. My 18 F150 had the dual tone and much louder sound. I ordered a dual tone off Amazon. Ended up being an actual Ford part. Getting to the horn was tough at first but I took the top plastic cover off and marked the hood latch bracket with a paint pen to reinstall would be in the same spot. Once the hood latch is unbolted you also unplug the latch from the electrical connection. Not the physical cable though. You can swing it down inside or up top. That access Is the only space you have to get back behind there. It’s a tight fit. The bolt for the horn bracket is in the absolute worst spot to be removed and reinstalled. I regretted it initially but came up with a method to reinstall it fairly easily. The factory horn bracket has a second mount arm left empty and it makes sense to reuse it for the new horns since the mount is integrated into the front part of the frame.

Here’s another photo of the new horns mounted to the existing bracket. The top of the bracket you will see has a “L” shape lip that gets inserted into a slot and the bolt tightens it and prevents it from rotating. The plastic part of the horns face the rear of the vehicle and the metal part faces forward. This is the same orientation as the original so it doesn’t interfere with the shutters.

Got mine done similar to Bryz_Expy... Left the bracket in place. Took out the single horn, and installed the OEM dual horns. Everything was very tight, hard to reach, etc - but got it done...
