2003 Grand marquis squealing

Asked by Apr 30, 2016 at 11:57 PM about the 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 grand marquis. It is squealing when I
have the AC or heat is on. It doesn't squeal when
the air is off. It has a brand new belt on it. Is it my
compressor going bad?

Hard too say really, if the head pressures are too high it can cause the compressor to try and lock up and that would make the belt squeal. I would take it in and have it checked out, the high pressure side is nothing to fool around with, it can cause damage to both the vehicle and anyone close by if it blows.

Check the belt idler, tensioner and a/c compressor. I'll be it is one of those.

New belts or not the problem is usually the tension on the belts.
