One of the poles that hold the back door open fell off, how do I fix it?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

One of the poles that hold open the back door fell off. When I tried to fix it, the
pole was longer than the other one that was still on and I could only figure out
how to make the pole longer, not shorter. How do I fix this?

The lift gate support is a gas shock. You have to compress it, to make it shorter to be able to align to the attachment fitting. Attach the bottom and pull down on the steel rod part and put it in where it belongs.
