2002 jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 v8

Im having a problem with my jeep it is acting like the engine
is locked up but im not sour if it is i just replaced the starter
an wan i tern the key to the start  position the starter clicks
and then all the dome lights and lights in the dash all the
gauges go out

If not the battery check the alternator. My battery was good but the alternator was bad and it did the same thing.
