Malfunction Indicator Light Stuck 'ON'

70

Asked by ChicagoNissan Feb 20, 2015 at 11:18 AM about the 2014 Nissan Versa

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Wife's 2014 Nissan Versa Note MIL light has been on and won't go off.
Car is handling fine. The manual says this signal has (2) modes. 'Blinking' or 'On' mode.
For 'on' it says to check to make sure the fuel-filler cap is on tight, then keep driving and
the light should go off.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a malfunction with the electric system?
Looking for an easy fix besides taking it into the dealer if possible. Any ideas/suggestions
are much appreciated -

Thanks in advance

Drive it to an Autozone and have them read the codes for you. If that light is on, it could be 50 possibilities. Write down the numbers and post them back here.

Thanks - the code is P059F, and they said there were two of them. The couldn't tell me at Autozone what that particular code meant and said that meant I needed to ask the dealership. Any idea what those mean by chance? Thanks

Can't seem to find that one. Here is a site with all of the codes except for that one: http://nissanforum.com/forum/nissan-japan-other-models-32/list- check-engine-codes-nissan-versa-tiida-5916/ I would print them off and keep them for future use. Sometimes the dealers have specialized code readers that only work on certain models. You may have something like that being such a new car.

I had the similar issue actually have ..currently. Auto Zone told me it was something wrong with the computer of the car. I don't know what this means but they said they couldn't give me any more info bc only the dealership would know. But I have no warranty or anything so I'm not sure what my next move will be.

Buenaluna, If you got a code for a loose gas cap like ChicagoNissan did, and if it is tight, what may be going on is a bad charcoal canister. If you have a habit of squeezing more gas into the car past the auto shutoff, it will force gas into your canister which will cause the CEL to illuminate.

from seeing what everybody is saying it looks like dealership put that code to go off automatically after some time to force you to go to their dealership to steal your hard earned money on fake repairs. dealerships cant be trusted, my car is running fine i just reset code.

I am having the same problem as ChicagoNissan . Same year and model of car. 2014 Nissan Versa Note. The ML is illuminated and we brought to Auto Zone and Nappa and they both received the same code as ChicagoNissan P059F. Wondering if anybody resolved there issue and what I should do next. Like to avoid the shop if it is something I may be able to do myself. Thanks

I have the same problem with my 2016 Sentra. Still under warranty but would like to know why it is still on after check the gas cap and filling up the gas tank. I never top it off. Let the automatic shutoff control the off. I have had the car for 18 months. Grrrrr

I have the same problem with a 2015 Altima that I bought 6 weeks ago. It happened shortly after I picked up the car from the dealer......I took it back and then shop mechanic , who turned off the MIL. Now, 2 weeks later , the MIL stays on again. Not sure the dealer will continue to handle the problem at no cost.

I just googled P059F, and got Nissan Versa Air Shutter Grille ... DTC P059F. Not sure if this helps you out. My light is on, on a 2016 Nissan Micra, and it came on after I went to full-serve and the attendant tightened the gas cap. I heard him click it only once, and he didn't force it. I've done everything they say and the light is still on. I did hear a clinking under the car, though, last week, and rarely if the wind blows ... thought it might be my catalytic converter cover, so it could be something loose affecting my emissions. I'll take mine in and hope it's under warranty.

I have a 2014 Nissan Versa Note and recently had a transmission rebuilt at the dealership a month ago and this morning as I'm getting ready to drive, I noticed the check engine light on. The car runs OK but I'm concerned. It was the same light which indicated my transmission had failed. I'm concerned about whether the dealership fix the wrong problem

I have a 2016 Nissan Frontier I had the same problem the instructions that I was given that worked said to reseat the gas cap and reset the trip meter. I did and it worked for me.

I have a 2014 Nissan Sentra. A message lit up saying fuel cap loose or something like that. I tightened the fuel cap which already seemed tight enough and the next day when I turned on the car that little symbol light lit up. Have no idea what it means and am not concerned. The car seems fine. Maybe it's those foreign warranty people sending us a message?....
