Steering wheel knocking sound

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When the car is stationary and I move the steering wheel slightly from side to
side it makes a clonking sound. When I drive above 70 mph it shimmys but
will stop if I turn the steering wheel slightly to one side. It has started to
sometimes make a high pitch sound when I have to turn the steering wheel
sharply to the left while parking. What do you think is the problem?

Google Hyundai steering coupler aka spider coupling aka motor driven power steering, the coupler will likely need to be serviced or replaced. Hyundai issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) about this known issue: TSB #14 ST 002 1 (FYI i had to remove the dashes in the number as that prevents my post from showing).

Hi. approached hyundai dealer only to be told that I will have to pay for getting coupler replaced. Anybody got this covered by Hyundai in Canada?
