Howling noise front end 2012 Ford Escape 50,000 miles
I got 4 new tires and still notice a howling noise in the front , underneath . I
confirmed the new tires are good When put on a lift the noise is NOT there .
The car steering is great and straight and no vibrations. Just the noise . Still
hear it when I put the car in neutral. Ford dealer service said everything
looked ok when they put it on a lift. One mechanic suggested changing fluids,
another though differential but not sure , another said tires are just loud .
Anyone have any thoughts
CV Joints may be worn, hard to tell when the rubber sheath is unharmed, (normally they will split and leak all the grease out) if worn might do exactly what you describe, one way to find out is reverse, drive reverse, and just listen for trouble~
If the noise is not there when it’s on the lift how do u confirm the noise is not in the tires. Also it could be a bad wheel bearing. Or the noise could be comming form the read end if it’s 4wd. Or it could be in the tires. U need to do more diag... also fluids won’t cause a noise so don’t bother with who ever is trying to sell u fluids
Check the bearings but maybe the tires have noisy tread.
