I'm looking at buying a 2005 BMW 325xi sports wagon, it has 111,000, got it for a great price because it the bottom end gasket needs to be replace. The guy says that's why it's losing power. Is it worth getting fix, and is that what happens, it loses power when the bottom end gasket needs to be replaced ?

If it's losing power then it should be thowing a code! If so, whatever the code then in all likelihood it is the source and/or reason for the loss of power.

The guy selling it told me the lower gasket needed to be changed. Said it was common for BMW. If not that then what could be causing it to lose power?

Could it be something serous though, cause I really want the car. Just wondering if it's worth it.

You have to know what exactly what it needs to make a educated decision. That lower gasket isn't making any sense. Are you sure you got that right?

This my friend sounds more and more like a Head Gasket issue which = expensive! It's akin to having open heart surgery for your vehicle. It isn't the cost of the gasket kit which in itself is nominal. It is the labor that costs! This car should be experiencing overheating issues...if not now soon. The proble with that is it could have overheated and the heads could be warpped or the bolts in the cylinder head could have come out, etc. But that isn't the worst of it, someone could have sought out a quick fix and purd some stop leak...liquid gasket sealeant in the system and if that's the case then you're screwed. That, my friend will destroy the entire coolant system. But if it's just the head gasket and that alone...on the conservative side your looking at $1800-2k for a fix.
