Bmw 3 series no hot air

Coolant light came on so I topped it up, but I was
rushing before work and (stupidly) never put the
cap back on and drove to work on the way back
from work the light came back on, checked it and
relised my mistake, with no coolant left at all! then
top the coolant up again, car is running fine apart
from the heater has now stopped blowing hot air,
what can I do?...

It's a 1999 bmw 3 series

I think you have trapped air in the system. Park the car on a slope facing up hill. Take the radiator cap off with the engine cool, top it off if needed and idle the car with the heater on until it is fully warm. This will allow the trapped air to vent. Top off if needed and you hopefully will have heat. I am surprised that you did not destroy your engine!
