timing chain on porsche cayenne

Asked by GuruL2V2F Apr 24, 2019 at 12:42 PM about the 2011 Porsche Cayenne

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Cayenne suddenly stopped while driving on the highway.  Apparently the
timing chain system malfunctioned (?broke) and the pistons became dented
and car lost compression.  I basically need a new engine.  Incidentally my car
was serviced for an oil change 3 days prior to this.  Any thoughts on what could
have "spontaneously" caused this besides just wear and tear?

Unless the oil change shop left it nearly empty of oil it was mechanical failure.

Agree with F_O_R, if they failed to add oil or there was a leak related to the oil change, I don’t think it was the shop’s fault. Timing chain is a closed system so not sure what they could have done.

The same thing happened to my 2013 S Hybrid. I've been quoted a 10K in labor costs alone. Can i ask what you decided to do with your vehicle and and if it was full repair, what were your costs?
