Driving along and everything was fine. Heard a pop, check engine light came on and lost power. Now running on 3 cylinders. Discovered #1 cylinder coil was bad.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving on the freeway, everything was fine with the cruse control on.
Heard a pop, lost power and fell out of cruse control. Crept to the house and
began diagnosing the problem. Found the #1 spark plug coil was dead.
Changed the coil, expensive, and now car is fine. Back to the freeway about 30
miles in and same problem happened. Any ideas as to what killed the coil?
