Asked by Erin Oct 15, 2016 at 03:10 PM about the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question type: General

I was returning to my empty, running, van while in
park, on an inclined driveway, parked in back of
another car, and as I was walking between the 2
cars I brushed the hood with my hand, and it
started going forward by itself!!! It pinned me
between the 2 cars crushing my legs!!! WHY would
it do this????

its not uncommon for a car to roll slightly when initially put in park from drive or reverse. But if this was a significant movement as if the vehicle slipped from park into neutral or drive then i would get it into a transmission specialist quick. And be sure to chock your wheels when on an incline.

It went forward up a hill while in park. Running/idling, empty

whoa. That's a whole other story. Obviously the only way it would roll up hill is to be in gear. Since the shift order go P R N then D and the shifter was in P, first thing to happen should have been to roll in reverse. I'm not a transmission expert but definitely take that to a shop. If that happened to my wife, we'd be car shopping.

The dealership won'the do anything. The company is going to investigate it within 2 days. I won'the drive it!
