I would suspect the battery is dead. They fail without warning.. Have you ever replaced it ?? The AAA has a great battery service for members. If you have AAA, they will come to your location, test your charging system and offer to sell you a replacement battery.. Their batteries are fantastic and have a great guarantee.. Also, having roadside assistance is essential, so, if you are not a member, consider a service..

First check the connections at the battery and the grounds. They must be corrosion free, clean and tight. Next have the battery tested. If the battery is more than 4 or 5 years old consider replacing it. If battery checks out check the connection at the starter also try a different key.

Hey, it's 2016....your battery will not hold a charge...it is dead. Useful life is only about 6 years, so don't fret. Get a jump and drive over to Sears or AutoZone and buy a new one. I think the VW OEM batteries are pretty weak (>500 cranking amps) take this time to shop for a same-sized (fits in VW battery box) Gold battery that is closer to 700 CCA. Ask about getting your spark plugs and coils changed, too. Likely, they are corroded and done, too. Faster starts puts less strain on battery in all weather
