2010 Ford Escape sounds like a lawn mower when started or accelerating

Asked by GuruSJC64 Jun 24, 2019 at 02:21 PM about the 2010 Ford Escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Escape didn’t have this problem before I
changed my fan (which was broken and I
don’t believe is the cause). When in neural
and rolling there is no noise, only when I turn
it on and driving. It’s so bad my friends can
hear me coming from down the street, and at
this point I’m nervous to drive because I
don’t want to end up on the side of the road.
I don’t know much about cars so it could be
from the exhaust despite my belief of it
coming from under the hood.

Also have leaking issues from under the
glove box! Yikes...

Someone will have to inspect it. A hole in an exhaust pipe or resonator can be loud. That leak under you glove box is likely a heater core, is there an odor with it? If not, it might be the heater core box condensation drain is clogged up.

Darn. I just took my car in for other problems, I guess I will have to go back. I think there is something wrong with front drainage. Every time it rains I will have a puddle or wet interior. When it was cold out it got to the point where after heavy rain had gotten in, i had an ice puddle frozen on the floor. When it was warmer and rained I ended up with mold in my car. No other oders other than when I had mold.

There are a couple rain channels or gutters you can try and clean out, also remove the cowl vent/screen and clean the windshield drain area. There are videos on youtube for "How to clean a clogged windshield drain", might be something simple like leaves or debris causing the water to get into your vehicle.
