While driving the engine malfunction light came on.. What could be the
probable cause(s)?

I drive this car. Happened to me once and it was a loose connection to the battery. Those posts can become very loose if someone overtightened once. note- I say this with the assumption that you are seeing your check engine light in accessory mode and mistakenly assuming there is a correlation.
