Why does at start up lets out quite a bit of white smoke from the exhaust

My SRX at start up lets out quite a bit of white smoke from the exhaust, it
does not do it all the time but sometimes after being idle and i turn it on a puff
of white smoke will come out the exhaust,

Do you have a high-mileage motor? Notice any oil contamination in the coolant? One of the bigger reasons for white smoke from the exhaust is a blown head gasket.
