Steering noise

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 ford fiesta. I notice when stopped and the engine is running and I turn the
steering wheel slightly I can hear a gentle noise coming from somewhere in the engine.
On full lock I get a louder noise for about a second or so. Is this going to develop into
something serious? Could it be belt slipping?
Your help and advice will be appreciated.
Regards, Dave.

check the belt tension, also check the ATF fluid in the power steering bottle. usually there are a bit of noise when you turn the wheels to the left and right lock position. if the noise is getting worse after checking the belt and the ATF it is the pump that is on its way out.
