1998 Honda Civic spuddering and losing power

My civic feels like its losing power while I'm driving. It happens in all gears but
definitely more obvious in 1st and 2nd. The transmission is also making a
growling sound in all gears and I'm not sure if that could be the cause. If i let go
of the pedal and push down on it the car will jerk forward and work randomly
